A friend of mine is having a hard time sourcing an affordable replacement that actually fits.
It’s a Hitachi Starter S114-864 263-70503-00 and goes to a Subaru engine on a rider.
Any hints or nudges in a direction is appreciated.

Subaru PN 263-70503-00 has been superseded to 263-70504-J0.

Yes, found that and agree.
He purchased one online from “A” that stated it would work but I'm told the teeth count on the starter pinons are different and the shafts are different so can't swap gears.
