Echo ES1000

Postby oli » Sat Aug 15, 2020 8:41 pm

Echo ES1000 combination shredder / blower. Including the original flywheel, I am now on the 3rd. replacement flywheel. The flywheel has a key that is cast into the shaft hole that engages the keyway slot of the crank shaft (PTO). Overtime, the flywheel key strips out, allowing the flywheel to spin freely on the crankshaft (PTO). I have been using used flywheels as replacements. This unit has only been used as a blower. Any way to prevent the stripping out of the flywheel key? Thanks in advance.

Are you using a torque wrench to tighten the nut to 140-175 in/lb? 'That should be good enough' doesn't cut it.

I assume Roy quoted the torque spec from the service manual (which I don't have in front of me, yet) and I would torque to the higher end of the torque spec, plus I would be only installing a new flywheel; unless, I personally had removed the flywheel from a known good unit of the correct serial number range.

Please note there is two different flywheels used base on the serial number.

SN 001001 - 049008 PN 156801 44730
SN 049009 and UP PN 156800 06360

Also on SN 049009 and up they used a different ignition coil than the early models.
