Carburetor replacement

Postby Ron » Wed Aug 31, 2022 8:46 pm

Briggs and Stratton 219802 4118 B1 101227ZA
This is on a Swisher RTB12544 pull behind mower. Owner needs a new carb. Briggs parts list only shows rebuild kits not the complete carb. His has the Nikki carb. Carb has 131 stamped on one side. There are more numbers on the other side if that would help. Thanks.

It appears the Walbro carburetor is no longer available and has been replaced by the Nikki, no reason he can't do the same. This is common, Briggs sourced carburetors wherever they could.

That’s understood. What I’m looking for is a part number to order a new carb.

You might check out jacksmallengine for some info
Your model number took me to this link:

Be aware that the Nikki carb part number listed is for a later code than your engine, it may not fit.[/color]
I did not say this is ALL correct for your application. I'm just giving you a hint for your review.
I seen a Walbro kit 796185 for like $100 and a Nikki carb part number 593432 which you can find for $20 and up.

I always keep my fingers crossed when installing Nikki carbs, especially clones.
What I would maybe consider doing is order a Nikki from Amazon (so as can return with free shipping if it don't work) but before I installed the Nikki I would try to clean the Walbro. I've had good luck with making some/most Walbro carbs run W/O a kit just by carefully removing the bowl and cleaning the carb if it has been running OK on the engine and just starting having issues (not setting for long period of time with rust and dried gas inside) or install the Nikki and then clean the Walbro as a spare, but I would not spend $65-100 for a 796185 Walbro kit.

According to Partselect.com their carb part number is ps9035173 which is Briggs number 796077 superseded to 590399. Lots of aftermarket ones out there. Seem to work for some a according to the reviews I’ve read.

Ron, The carburetor PartSelect are listing is actually Briggs 590399. According to the Briggs IPL the Nikki PN would be Briggs 593432 As you have to use the later carburetor since the Walbro is no longer available. Personally unless the throttle and choke are flogged out I would be rebuilding the carb.

I stand corrected. Went to Briggs power portal, which I should have in the first place, and 593432 is the right one. Thanks.
