I've had some success using a socket to put the ring on and if I recall I did something to compress the spring and shed less blood removing it. my frustration now is spending time that I shouldn't on a tecumseh and the old murray self propelled that it's on. I hoped it would be quick replacement for same friend with this ariens. his craftsman self propelled has unreparable valve train.
