Elecrtic PTO Clutch Problem

I have a Troy-bilt zero turn model #17AA5ABP766 that the pto clutch went bad on.I orderd a replacement from stens 255-295 is what it called for.with the ground drive pulley installed there is only 1" of shaft for the pto clutch to slide up on.The factory one that I replaced was like that also.has anyone else run across this and is that enough shaft for the pto

If engine and pulley are both original, I'd say 1" is enough shaft for the PTO clutch. That's enough, along with the tightening of the clutch bolt, to keep everything in place. Too much shaft is actually more of a problem than too little, I'd say. You don't want the clutch to bottom out against the end of the crankshaft before it meets the drive pulley.
