Nothing 38" in my accessories book. 95 service book has 38" high vacuum and 38" F. Says high vacuum is an 805 and can replace an 801 used in 89 and prior by using a kit. Might also require change of engine pulley. Going to see if deck number comes up at IPL sites.

Ok. Think I found your deck. Go to parts tree and enter model 196-801-000. Or Google mtd 801 deck 38. I downloaded the 4 page mtd manual PDF for it from a link there. Check 196-805 as well. Looks like it was available pre 89 as well.

Tnks 38racing looks more like the deck he has according the mower ipl partial image of the deck. I was hoping someone still had access to the old info.

These are before the time I started working on these mowers and have not seen a single working one here. Most of the old non-working ones are probably been recycle by now.

Thats it I think 38racing. I thought I remembered the deck had its own model# but I could have easily been wrong.

It's a 1988 model and still does well. I bought it years ago from a guy that thought the motor was worn out because it had no
power and would stall out. Only thing wrong was throttle shaft worn to the point it wouldn't turn. I use it regularly for grass cutting
and as a tow machine.
I knew the spindle bearings have been quite noisy for some time, got real bad last week so I replaced them.
I have nicer machines but that one is generally the first one I get to so it gets used mostly. We are both kinda old
but I think it might be in better shape than me. lol

Thanks for the help guys.
