Gas Tank Vent Valves

I have a Honda EU 2000i generator with a vent valve on the gas cap. This question, I think, actually pertains to all vented tanks with vent valves. Can these valves be closed immediately after shutdown, or should they be left open until the unit cools? Could premature closure cause tank collapse via vacuum?

Owners manual states: Allow the engine to cool well, turn the vent lever to the OFF position."

Your tank will collapse like a black hole and suck in you and everything else in the vicinity. Science will study the phenomenon for decades trying to discover the forces behind it and finally a report will be published blaming it all on "Global Climate Change". Sorry I had to do it. Close it whenever you feel like. If I had to pick an exact time I would do it right before shutdown .

Whatever you do...don't put it in a cold truck bed....
