4 Head Bolt Briggs

Postby dunoon2 » Mon Nov 23, 2015 4:40 pm

Hi, Just got in a pressure washer with a Briggs 12S902-0156-B1 with a blown head gasket. This engine only uses 4 head bolts, BAD DESIGN, anyway I resurfaced the head and need to know if I need to put some kind of sealer on the gasket also what is the head torqued to? Thanks in advance.

Nothing mention in the service manual. Head Torque 210 in-lb.

Hi Dunoon

The Honda GX series of engine only use four head bolts and they've been running fine since the late 1970's. Make sure both surfaces are clean and torque bolts in an X configuration by 5 ft-lb increments to the desired torque. (210 in-lb = 17½ ft-lb).
