Ariens help

Postby Gerry » Thu Mar 17, 2016 6:54 pm

Got a Model: 960460 in, owner said that he had the ground drive belt replaced and after about 20 minutes of cutting the belt shredded. The V and idler pulleys look good and are tight. What I don't know about is the 2 small pulleys, is the 1 suppose to be angled/offset? When I pull the belt around by hand it looks like the belt would throw off the angled 1.

Thanks in advance.

Gerry are you 100% about the model number? I tried looking up the mower at Jack's and the numbers are longer that start with your numbers (ie 960460023-01). I did find six digit model but they are in the 930000 range. Of the deck I looked at they are a standard AYP design layout.

- I think it is bent - you have a belt guide rubbing on the inside of the belt in the picture. Assuming this is ground drive and those 2 idlers are the clutching system, I'd have to say the bracket is bent.

KE4: - I think this machine is MUCH older from long before Ariens started wh**ing their brand on an AYP built pile of junk... I think this would be Ariens' own engineering - they had some riders and tractors way back when (I used to see a couple of their rear engine riders in on a regular basis) and they were very well made machines - not like the modern day junk we're all used to (and that you are finding in parts lookups)

is it possible the pulley is angled to effect a difference in height with another pulley and the guide hitting the belt just needs to be moved so it does not touch the inside of the belt. I have noma clutch pullies and the guide can be fixed in any position and usually has to be right to stop the belt in neutral.

That doesn't look right. Seems to me the belt should go over the v pulley then under the flat idler with the guide on the opposite side.

It does look bent to me too but would like to see the IPL first to see how things are setup. I like to have general idea how things setup first before saying it is or not.

I tried the Ariens parts lookup site but they are wanting the serial number too to start a look-up.

Thanks, I got to agree the routing look wrong but routing this way is keeping the belt clear of the steering shaft. Went back and checked the model number now comes the hard part..........I was WRONG :bricks: The MOD: 93604800/A19BA42 and under Model Product 960460010 Serial: 111109A005282.

Owner thinks he bought the mower in 2010 or early 2011. Engine was changed out in 12.

Okay it appears to be a 936048 (Product number 960460010). If I'm reading things right the last two of the model number is version so the actual product number is going to be 960460010-00 manufactured Nov 11, 2009.

This should your belt layout> 936048-960460010-00-42-hydro-tractor/drive

And it does appears that the idler arm is bent though I haven't this drive path before. Still not as bad as some the JD ground drive belt setups I worked on last year.
