Starter solenoid replacement
Hi
I have a Gravely Pro-50 (old unit) and the starter solenoid has failed
Model: (old #) 34950 (new #) 988022

Can i go to NAPA and just get a 12v solenoid?

Tnx, for the two model numbers as I couldn't the old model number. I am showing it to be Gravely PN 007277 using the new model number. You should be able to find either the Prime Line PN 7-01855 or the Stens PN 435-008 at your Napa dealer.

NAPA has them in their small engine section. Part # SME 7016841 $14.00
Just jump one of the small terminals to ground, or get one with only one small terminal.

You might review this to see what type solenoid you need from NAPA. (for a mower)

The isolated base type with two terminals (used with interlock circuits) can be made to replace the grounded base type but not vice versa.

and you probably know this: some of these type solenoids do not come new with double nuts on the control screws. the single nut on the terminal is locking the terminal to the body of the solenoid to prevent from twisting the terminal. If the terminal screw twists (turns) it breaks the little solenoid coil wire internally. I do not use nut drivers when installing or removing wires from these screws, use a open end or box end so you can carefully WATCH THE TERMINAL SCREW because sometimes you may have to use a backup wrench on the inside nut to prevent twisting the terminal and ruining the solenoid.
A guy brought me 3 new ones to test that he had ruined and had a fourth in his hand that he had not installed yet. He was trying to install them using the one screw on the terminal to hold a ring lug and the terminals were twisting breaking the small solid wire inside. Some of these terminals use a push on friction fit connector (which is good) instead of ring lugs so as the small nut can be left in place :bricks: :(
The one in the picture posted has two screws on the control terminal nut.

I run Ford solenoids...tell em you want one for a 1970 Maverick....
