T1440 kubota rework

Postby 38racing » Thu May 03, 2018 10:49 pm

This is the unit I referred to in thermoid belt post. I just got the deck spindles apart. Looks like one had bearings changed because they were sealed both sides . Other side had open one side and still some orange paint. They are 6205s. I have one but need 3 more . My aftermarket has them for $8cdn + shipping. My local canadiantire has them for $8 cdn.+(20 minute drive so $8 in gas) Napa for $30 lol. My princess auto in the city for $5. even more gas to get there. Just for curiosity I put number into Rockauto. Several choices but one as low as $1.05 cdn with shipping of $9. Only problem is just 1 in stock right now.

Be careful of the specs. Not all 6205 bearings are the same. Some can be up .007" difference in ID and a few thousandths off on the OD too. Use the full bearing spec number when searching. This can lead to problems installing them. May not even go on the spindle shaft or be loose.; the same for fitting into spindle housing.

i know there's one version that's 1 inch ID rather than 25 mm. I think it's the 6203 that also has a 5/8 inch ID instead of the metric.

That is actually the 6203-RS5/8 where the 6203-2RS is metric. At one time I went through quite a few of both of them here. The 6203-RS5/8 is the Murray upper bearing and the 99502H is the lower bearing. The 6203-2RS is the upper bearing in many of the AYP/Husqvarna spindles. Of there are few variations such as with metal shields or no shields.

i did find thread in a forum where poster said his bearing had c3at end. found that to mean larger than standard internal clearance. don't know if oem was c3 though.

Recall that one of the bearings already in it had LU at end. Wonder what that means?

I have the spindles done. Now trying to fix the wiring and the brake. Brake safety was simply a stuck plunger. Seat switch seems ok but not getting the right result. I'm have yet to check PTO switch which I suspect is either stuck closed too or bypassed closed. That would explain why seat switch not affecting anything. On this unit brake switch only affects cranking circuit. If you are on seat you will get fuel and spark OR if pto is off you'll get fuel and spark. (key in run).

PTO switch same as brake. They are closed when plunger depressed. For some reason (corrosion I assume) both plungers would not come back out. Funny thing was that I had key off so no power for relays but when I engaged PTO (engine off) I could hear a clicking. Turned out to be the boot/plunger on the switch as it tried to come out. Seat switch is still a bit sticky. It closes fine but when you get off seat with PTO on it does not kill engine immediately. Seems to need some vibration for the switch to open. I'm wondering about adding an additional relay to be powered by the seat switch. This relay would open/close a circuit running from magneto kill through an additional switch added to brake through the relay. This would add the feature that engine would stop if operator off the seat with brake off. The way it's wired now you can get off seat as long as PTO is off irrespective of brake. That would mean 2 relays powered via the seat switch. Not sure what the current draw would be.
I also have the brake itself working although not re-installed. It's inside the housing. The outside lever turns a cam that expands a pair of shoes against a drum attached to a drive shaft. Once again corrosion was the culprit.
