Hawaiian Manufacturing Company String Trimmer

Postby Skywatcher » Thu Jun 14, 2018 11:36 pm

Greetings All

I have what I guess is a late 1970's to mid 1980's HMC The Green Machine 3000LP straight shaft string trimmer S/N 178457 with a Zenoah 25.4 engine S/N 075003 which has a cracked fuel tank. Does anyone know if a replacement tank could be found to fit this unit. The tank has the 3 mounting holes, 2 at the front and 1 at the back with the filler cap on the left. The engine and trimmer are still in excellent shape, it just seems a shame to scrap the whole machine for the sake of a plastic fuel tank. Thanks and all the best,

Sky

Hi Sky. Mostly likely it is a lost cause most of older units parts are simply no longer made. The problem with Green Machines handhelds is there has been several owners over the years too including Homelite by John Deere.

What worst is where we are having a kill off good riding lawn mowers because we can't get replacement plastic fuel tanks. Some these are only 5 - 10 yrs old. There is even some equipment we can't even tanks for that is only few years old. It seems that manufactures are only interested in their new products with the aims of killing off anything more than a years old. They are no longer supporting older equipment like they once did. New generation of manufactures.

Yeah the original Green Machines were excellent machines, very well built - shop I worked at at the time was a dealership for them when they first came out. . However as you probably have discovered, parts are hard to come by nowadays - However, might have some luck if you search parts for Komatsu-Zenoah (Think these were also used on older Maruyama, and some sears, and possibly even Shindaiwas) I would imagine if you can find a tank with matching mounting dimensions, it an be made to work.

Green machine brand is currently used by whats-their-name the chinese company that also cranks out the home depot homelite-ryobi-ridgid junk
