Kubota transaxle leaking oil

Postby samcarpen » Fri Jul 06, 2018 5:35 am

Kubota T1460 lawn tractor with Kawasaki engine. Leaking around axle shaft. Can I replace seals without splitting case? Hydro-static transaxle. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks, Sam

Depends which transaxle you have. They use two different HSTs in this model. (HST = Hydro Static Transmission)

According the IPLs that older T1460 (Prior to serial number 400001) you have to split the unit to replace the axle seals. These seal would be the captive by the transaxle housing. Later ones (400001 and up) you just remove a snap ring the pull the seal.

Being a hydrostatic it may not have a case vent but if it does check the vent relief first.

AND you have probably done this but make sure that the axle bearing does not have any up/down play. (bearing worn and spinning on the axle will take out a seal)

Both has vents.

Here it is fishing line that is taking these seals at times.
