12Q502-0136 with primer carb

Postby wristpin » Fri Jul 06, 2018 1:30 pm

Been working on a 12Q and wanted to replace the gasket between the air cleaner body and the carb. The IPL gives the same part number for both primer and choke carbs - 692667. Problem is that it's not the right shape, the hole for the air to pass from the primer valve to the carb doesn't line up. I have a similar gasket 795629 in stock but it's not that one either. Any suggestions.
On a different tack, looking at the manual I see that the recommended plug gap is 30thou for horizontal crank engines and 20thou for verticals, no mention of model numbers, just horizontal and vertical - why?

It might be that you have the high mount air cleaner setup which uses the 691894 gasket instead of the flat panel air cleaner. Compare the old gasket the the following image.

Thank you for the heads' up on that, it has a high-level cartridge air cleaner. The carb and fuel systems "page" of the IPL only shows the one gasket with no reference to alternatives but the air cleaner "page" shows the alternatives - I should have looked there first!.

Just another slip up on Briggs part. Now I got order new of this gasket for stock here now too. It just dawn me to check the air cleaner section to see if there was any differences not noted in the carb section.

I reckon I have been looking too screwy IPLs lately.

This is what I tried to send earlier - should contain three pics and not just the one.

Any thoughts on why Briggs specify different plug gaps related to crank orientation ?

IIRC it is that they used different plugs as they changed the type plugs used after a particular date code. Also the coils OEM were changed at the same time. Most likely to meet some EPA requirement.
