I also seen the manual. It is one those with the pain in the rear decks too where it engine by spring tension to the rear. Glad I don't see them much any more.

Update found manual. Definitely the old vari-drive. I erred in saying 2 rods to it . Rod from clutch to it. Other rod from shifter goes to clutch as well on the right. Clutch moves vari-drive and rod from shifter controls how far out the clutch is allow to come. That how is sets speed.

Thought I'd add a few more pics for identification. Can I assume there should be a pivot point on the vari-speed pulley assembly? Doesn't move when the clutch depressed...

One thing of note gear shift lever can not be in park position or nothing will move but you probably already know this.

This manual covers most of this drive system.

Now that I have gotten the vari-speed pulley to move, I need to find out why it's sticking! I have WD40ed the heck out of every moving part...still sticking somewhere...

I never bought a can of wd40 in the last 40 years. I like fluid film to free things up.

There are times that any of penetrating fluids will not penetrate like they claim. I just last week couldn't anything to free up a clutch adjustment bolt on a Honda ATV. The only thing that somewhat work was sulfuric acid which ate through the rust and corrosion partway on that aluminum cover. Even then it took 24 hrs get where I could drive the bolt out. Might of work faster if it was more concentrated. I have had wheels so rusted on that the penetrating fluid would not even wick in overnight too.
