Briggs 3 HP - Want to swap crankshaft

Postby creia » Sun Sep 09, 2018 4:50 pm

1973 Briggs 3 HP
Model - 80232
Type - 0036-01
Code - 73061703
We took into inventory a used 1973 Briggs 3 HP horizontal-shaft "Easy Spin"over the weekend. The engine (now) runs and is in overall pristine condition. The problem is the engine came off of a water pump so the crank PTO end is threaded- no good for our application. We need one that is at least 2.25" long and has a slotted keyway so a centrifical clutch can be mounted. Either a 5/8" or 3/4" diameter crank PTO will work. I am having trouble finding the Briggs part number for the crank we need. Can I get some help please?
Thank you,
Michael :)

P/N 261128 should work but it is probably no longer available. Best to look for a donor engine with a salvageable crank.

Luffy, The info is there for for this engine. You just to convert the numbers given. The model needs the leading zero added and since it is a pre 1981 model the type must be changed to 99 or left off for the search.

And the 261128 is no longer available. On eBay there is an used one in Rockford, MI. Not cheap but looks to be in very good condition.

A friend dropped an old briggs at my place. I'll check the number and if he had any plans for it.

UPDATE:
I found a Briggs OEM NOS crankshaft for sale at 40.00 shipped. The seller "claims" it is for a Briggs 3 HP horizontal shaft. It comes with the original Briggs box and is part # 492880.Does anyone have a way of cross-referencing this crank to verify that it will indeed fit in my engine, or at least what Briggs engine model #'s this crank is used in?
Thank you again,
Michael :)
