No Spark

Postby Skywatcher » Tue Sep 18, 2018 8:57 pm

Greetings all, hope everyone is well.

Here's one for you brand-B fans.

EHP or HOPC Husqvarna rototiller.
Model: FT-900
Type: 960 830009-00
S/N: 021415M011628

Engine:
Chinese B&S
Model: 130G30
Type: 0056-F1
Code: 2014103068

Customer brought in aforementioned unit that wouldn't start. Initial diagnostic, no spark. Engine does not have low oil sensor or interlock, just the rocker switch by the throttle control. Remove cowl and disconnected stop wire from coil, good spark, checked switch, OK, reconnected wire, no spark. Notice a wire going up to under fuel tank so remove tank to explore. Dead end wire with bare end touching crankcase. Cut wire off at coil connector and remove from engine, problem fixed.

My question is; If the engine does not have the low oil sensor or the ¼ turn switch like Honda, why have a dead end wire going up under the fuel tank where it can short out? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks

Maybe someone else has been 'fixing' it? Original engine for the tiller?

doesn't sound like the original engine... betcha that dead end wire was formerly hooked to the flywheel brake - like someone pulled the engine off a lawnmower to apply to the tiller, and simply unbolted the flywheel brake/stop switch and swapped in the outer trim pieces from the (likely blown or damaged) engine is the flywheel on it one of the heavy weight flywheels? or does it appear to be a standard lawnmower flywheel?

It should be the original engine but model number should 130G32-0056-F1. According to Briggs Power Portal there is no 130G00 out there. That harness should had a bullet connector on the end of the wire for the optional oil sensor.

Hi Again

The machine was bought new by the current owner and the engine has never been worked on before. The outside tiller tine spider broke off within the first 6 months and Husqvarna would not warranty the part. The NAPA store where the unit was bought felt this wasn't right so they had the spider welded back onto the tube at no cost to the customer. What KE4 makes sense, had there been a female bullet connector on the wire as in harness part # 590689, it would not have shorted out. Double checked the number and yes it is 130G32-0056-F1. All the best,
