Just looked at 700 series repair manual and it's like the ones I've done. It is Philips #4 and manual says to use impact driver to remove. Has loctite on it.

The Cub LT1000 series is nothing like the 700 series when it comes to the steering.

Here is a link to instructions that covers the Cub LT1042 lawn tractor steering shaft replacement that I just scanned and uploaded.

This addendum goes with the Cub LT1000, 1500 SM that is also in the MTD SM downloads.
