Kipor generator

I was given a model IG 3000 inverter generator, told it runs but doesn't produce power. No battery and the rewind rope is broken. I am not at all familiar with it, is the battery necessary for the exciter to work?

According to the wiring diagram it is only needed for the electric start. It appears that this inverter's alternator is using a permanent magnet rotor.

Do you need the service manual?
