Sears/Tecumseh motor 143.986001

Postby dart451 » Mon Oct 29, 2018 12:02 pm

I screwed up! I should have taken a good picture of the governor linkage before taking the pull rope cowling off the motor. (Yes, you have to remove the flipping flywheel to replace the fuel line!) Anyway, I took the linkage off the linkage mechanism and left it hanging on the governor rod. Now, I can't seem to get it back together...every time I close the throttle cable, the one spring loop falls off the mechanism! I posted the Sears number in the Subject but I cannot find a diagram of this linkage setup in my Tecumseh book! Any help would be greatly appreciated...

You must thread the spring end thru the throttle lever end so the lever hole slides along the length of the spring. The hook end is just a stop.

if you use the correct fuel line, and a vacuum connector , you can replace fuel line as it sits by connecting new line to old line with connector and pulling the old line out while threading new line in .. as for linkage, I don't recall the correct hookup but Im sure someone here does or has a photo

Here is a photo of what I described except the owner has bent the end for increased rpms. Kids will do the darnest things as they did go this go-cart.

Then can I conclude that I have the wrong spring connected as shown? Put the one with hook at the farthest point, connect the sliding hook to the throttle tab?

The in your picture the one that is dangling is the one that goes in the moving throttle arm. The other section is in the right place. Just as I said it just got to be threaded and not just hooked.

Ok, I understand! I just spent another 30 minutes trying to thread the OTHER spring through it...I try to thread the spring that is connected to the governor...thank you!

Again, thank you dearly for the information...I was trying to thread the wrong piece and it didn't work so well!
