BRIGGS 80232-9878-99. 260256 governor link dimensions

Postby wristpin » Sun Nov 18, 2018 6:09 pm

I will appreciate any help with the dimensions of this link that is missing from an engine that I'm working on and shown as being no longer available.
Easy enough to make but having the dimensions will save a bit of experimenting.
Thanks in hope!!

Are you sure about that part number? PartsTree shows part # 260256 as a "Spring-Needle Valve" (which is also NLA)

Whoops, 260565 !
Thanks for the heads up. However still looks like I'll end up making one. It's a 1978 lump so I suppose that I just have to accept that nothing is for ever.

It would probably be the best as it is a simple wire with two Z bends with one rotated 90 degrees of the other. Here is a picture of one. They were also used on the 2 hp 60200 series that had the mechanical governor. And actually sold about 0.50 usd but the only one I see on eBay is over 5 usd and the shipping to the UK is a killer. The the 2 hp engine I got here is an air vane version governor.

Thanks, I took some measurements this morning and made one from piano wire, also had to adapt an old 5hp flywheel screen as they are obsolete over here and replaced the missing points and condenser with a spare Meco module as I didn’t have a Magnetron coil with the right leg spacing - cracking spark so tomorrow should be fire up day!

If you made one that worked, please post the dimensions(s) as it may help someone in the future on this forum.

I will do that. There is a new one on ebay at present at £20 (20 UK pounds) which is a bit hopeful imo considering the size of the market place . A £2 length of piano wire will make several so there's room for experimentation!

Pleased to report that the engine fired up this morning and the home made Governor link appears to be doing the job.136mm effective length. The engine was full of water when received and has just had its second hot flush of SAE30.
