Ryobi Blower Won't Start

Ryobi BP42 backpack blower
Model: RY08420A

This came in over the weekend with the owner reporting that it was running fine, stopped abruptly and then wouldn't start. While I was diagnosing it, it would sputter a bit at low RPM and stall but would never catch on and run. Spark was good so I pulled the carb and peeked into the intake. I took a photo of the cylinder wall from there with the borescope. I noticed that when I pulled the rope slowly, as the piston went up to compress, I saw fuel oozing past the piston. I can easily hold my finger over the spark plug hole while pulling it over. With a compression tester, I got a reading of 85-90 psi. I read it needs 150 but I don't know what the minimum is to at least run.

I haven't gotten a look at many cylinders in my short career but this looks pretty bad to me. I know I have spark and I know there's fuel so I'm assuming the cylinder/piston are the problem?

By the looks of it it has been straight gassed or a very lean oil mix. It time for a new PNC but Homelite only provide a shortblock for this Ryobi. PN 309842001 @ 61.88 list. IF you wish probably https://www.smallenginesprodealer.com/part-homelite-309842001/ your best bet outside the dealer network. Even my cost is 52.60 plus shipping; unless, I have $200 order.

As for compression on 2 cycles usually anything below 100 psi is bad, I tend to use 110 as a minimum. I have only seen two units that would run @95 psi in the last 10 yrs.

Owner decided to go with a new machine rather than repairing. Thanks for the help.
