Makita BHX2501 rocker case dry

Postby andytw » Tue Oct 08, 2019 10:40 am

This is a 4 stroke blower.
Long history of not rev'ing well, so I opened the rocker case to adjust the rockers.
I found spec on-line for BHX2500 which says .15mm which I make 6 thou so have adjusted to that.
The gaps were massive before, probably 20/25 thou on both valves.
It now runs and rev's much much better but I am concerned that the rockers and the upper valve assembly appeared to be quite dry.
Just wondering how it is supposed to get lubricated.
Oil level in sump is OK.
Thanks

Oil mist travels with crankcase vapors, rockers only need a film of oil for lubrication, excess will drain back to crankcase. May want to check the crankcase breather tube and vent and ensure it is correctly connected to air cleaner body and allows air flow out from engine to air cleaner... if its plugged up, might prevent proper upper chamber lubrication.

Actually per the service it is between .08 and .40 mm with the clearances normally being set at .15mm.

There should some oiling going on as BGS said nothing heavy though. Check the oil pickup tube leakage and the reed (lead) valve is not deformed. There is also 2 two rubber check valves that need checking.

Items 44, 45, 46, and 59 on the following diagram.

Also if you need the service manual for the BHX2500 which basically the engine. If can email you a copy but you need to send me your email ad via a PM message.

Thanks for the 2 previous replies, I am now re-assured. I will check the integrity of the pipe and reed valve, and the pipe underneath.

Thanks
