Low Idle control

Postby Az Shadeguy » Tue Oct 08, 2019 5:04 pm

Multiquip generator with a Honda GX390
When I turn the low idle switch on the solenoid kicks out but not enough to lower the engine rpm.
I have done a static governor adjustment.
Any tips on how to solve this

Hi Az

The first thing I would check is the low idle screw on the carburetor. Manually push the governor arm away from the governor spring and see what the engine low idle is set at. I forget the exact specs, but I think it's around 2,000 rpm. Once you've set the low idle screw, see what the idle down solenoid does. If memory serves me correctly, it should pull the governor arm so the throttle shaft is against the low idle stop screw on the carburetor. Let us know what you find,

Finally got back to this generator .
The low idle screw is now set at 2000 rpm.
Regular idle is 3600 rpm. I turn on the low idle switch and the solenoid kicks on but does not touch the governor shaft. There is about a 1/4" gap.
When doing the static governor adjustment I guess it is to be done with the shaft straight? This has a 2 piece shaft that pivots in the middle.

Try this adjustment. Extracted from the SM and converted to a three page pdf.

Some have a servo that gets stuck and won't move. That's on most hand helds
