Looking for a short block "L" head

Postby dart451 » Sat Nov 30, 2019 5:30 pm

I'm considering ordering a short block L head for a Briggs 12F707-1821-E1 code 98031156. This engine is on an older DR high wheel trimmer that seems like it would still be serviceable except for the badly scored cylinder walls. Doesn't look like the oil has ever been changed! Any secrets to figuring out if a short block will work? Thanks.

Well, they show the shorty as NLA (799983 if you can find one) 126L07-5060-F1 was the replacement should it be out there somewhere.

L-head short bolcks and replacement engines are no longer available thanks to the eco nazis. Your only option is to replace it with an ohv engine with the cast iron flywheel making sure the crank shaft diameter and length match.

If you REALLY want to keep the original engine, and depending on how bad (deep) the scoring is,, how about an O/S rebore? Is an O/S piston/ring set available for that engine?

Hi Dart

I don't know where you are located, but I do have a good used 12F702-1778-B1 engine from a Bolens high wheel trimmer that the trimmer head came to pieces and the customer figured the machine wasn't worth fixing. I don't know if this will help or not, just PM me if you think it will. All the best,

I'm guessing that this is one of these things that isn't worth a big expense. I see that EBay has a shorty, only 200$...
