Husky Chainsaw Oil Problem

Postby bill18163 » Tue Apr 28, 2020 3:02 pm

I have a Husky 445 chainsaw that leaks oil a lot. Let it sit long enough and the whole tank will drain into the carrying case. I wanted to get a look at the pump area under the plate behind the clutch but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the clutch off. I thought at first that there was a hex screw in the center of the clutch that had to be removed but it looks like it's just a hole. I want to get a look at the oil pump and hoses but getting the clutch off has me stumped. It's probably something simple but I need some help. Also, does anyone know where I can get a repair manual for the 445?

Yes:

For chainsaw specialist's go to this link, register and ask away;

They have a library for IPL's and or members will send you one.
Your clutch most likely is a left hand thread, some require locking the engine.
They can tell you exactly how to remove and what to do about the oiler. I'm not familiar with that model myself.

Yes the chain clutch is left handed threaded and should be removed with the clutch tool. But it simply unscrews but you will need at least a piston stop or you will not get it off. And when installing it is definitely needed; unless, you want to destroy the recoil assembly. Clutch is torqued at 20 nM (177 in'lbs), requires a left head torque wrench.

As for oil leak the following are the most causes.

There is a little plug in the bottom of the oil tank it's the oil filter. Need to remove handle and clean up the crank case to see it. That is most likely your leak.
