Briggs Snap Switch question.

33R777-0012-G1

Anybody anything about the 593056 snap switch that Briggs got installed the alternator DC line? Don't seem to be any real purpose for it since the alternator has a standard dual circuit stator other than to cost to the engine.

Also there an electric choke solenoid but no info it controls either.

Okay figured out what Briggs has done to us on this engine.

  1. Snap Switch is a low temperature switch which when closed provides 12 vdc to the choke solenoid. This device is sensing the crankcase temperature.
  2. Choke solenoid is therefore only powered during low temperatures. I couldn't remove it to check temperature rating due seized screw.
  3. Note new choke shaft design plus part circled is not even shown on the IPL so I don't know if it comes with solenoid or the choke shaft kit; unable to find any images of the two PNs.
    Also note the stud that is on the choke shaft.
  4. The mower I working on this system is not even connected.

makes me glad I closed up shop and went into woodworking instead..

here are questions:
1. what year was the engine manufactured?
2. Who built the mower?
3. Is it likely this was developed and installed by the equipment manufacturer.
4. Are there any other bimetal devices attached to the choke linkage?
5. does this position choke to full closed, or full open? No middle position?

181119ZD so it a late 2018. 33R777-0012-G1.

The mower is a Craftsman. MTD/Toro manufacture. 13AL78XS093.

No it is by Briggs themselves. So the carburetor has a mounting area built-in.

No just the standard throttle control linkage.

5. does this position choke to full closed, or full open? No middle position?

When activated it would the choke to full close. When non active Full open. But I cansee where a equipment manufacture could vary the voltage to have varying amounts
choke but they would also need add additional tension spring. Current setup has the choke shaft spring only.

I am glad to be retired as well. I still work with a local shop, they call me in when the younger techs run into a problem on older equipment they have never seen, but I cringe when I see what is out there now.

Reminds me of some years back with techs who were good at what they knew and did, certainly more so in things that I struggled with at the time. But you'd get a puzzled look about checking a reed valve or comments like "This thing has breaker points where?" :lol:
