Kohler Command Spraying Gas From Muffler

Postby oli » Wed Jun 16, 2021 9:23 pm

Kohler Command, 15 hp, ohv, single cylinder, Model# CV15S, Spec# 41594, Serial# 3101606653, C-series, on a John Deere, LT-155 lawn tractor. On cold start up, gas sprays from the muffler, and drips from the muffler shroud located under the engine. At start up, there is light black smoke from the muffler that clears up once engine is throttled up. Engine runs fine at high speed under load, but at idle speed, light black smoke comes from the muffler and the engine start losing RPM's and sounds like it might stall. This engine has a fuel pump. No obvious signs of leaks around carburetor, or fuel pump. Any suggestions as to the problem and repair would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Oli

The low speed circuit is running far too rich, get it addressed before you burn the dang thing down! I am not familiar with that carburetor, an idle jet may have come dislodged.

sounds like a problem I was having with a JD that had command 15 .. fuel pump diaphragm ruptured and leaked fuel into the crankcase. I'd recommend checking the fuel pump (test it for leakage after removing it from engine by working the mechanical lever while both test fuel lines are in a small can of gas, see if you get any gas seeping out of the mechanical lever area)

Check for a leaky needle valve/seat since this is a fuel pump setup. Might be leaking at idle.

Might simply need a carburetor repair kit but unable to look up kit currently since ARI is down.
