Stihl MS290 Top End

Postby puttinalong » Sat Apr 30, 2022 8:53 pm

I am putting a new cylinder and piston in a Stihl MS290. I am looking at using Permatex Motoseal (Grey) to bond the cylinder to the crank bottom. I read about a product called "threebond" as well. Before I put this thing together (this is the first top end I have ever done), I wanted to ask if what I plan to use is correct and if anyone has had issues with it before.

Thank you for any input!

The IPL indicates Dirko HT Red sealant but Motoseal should be fine. Just remember to tighten those DG6x52 screws to 97.4 in-lbs (11 nM).

Here is a list torques for the MS290. Of course you need to convert the nM to in/lbs.

I appreciate your time and the additional information you shared as well. Thank you so much and I hope you have a great summer! I will loop around and let you all know how it goes when the cylinder and piston get delivered!

Received the new piston/ring kit and used Motoseal. Everything seems to be holding well. Thanks again!
