If Serial numbers contains:

Model year
J = 2018, K = 2019, L = 2020

Which area it was for
A = Canada, C = California, E = 49 States and Australia

I'll check ser. Should be canada. His is a 2015 I think based on engine code.
Numbers of the original ones were
Gx22645, gx24908
I ordered the idler arm today.

Is there a way to edit the thread topic. I just realized it says e120. He has e110. I am looking up e110 for his parts.

Actually I just pulled up the e110 background and it appears to have started in 2018. I thought 2015 but I might have had a 5 in my head. 2018 would make it 5 years old. I'll recheck engine code. 5 years old seems right. I got his kubota t1400 and 5 years seems right for me using it.

I edited the original post and all previous posts will still have E120 but any entered after the edit will reflect E110. I just don't feel like editing all the posts subjects. Also if you quote a previous post you need the subject line to reflect the corrected model number.

In this case the decks are the same.

Attempting to download service manual. Currently getting "File not Found error code". Email sent to find out what the problem is. Once I get it I will file it on the Google Drive. Probably won't help in this case anyways.

The SM is now available for download for cleared forum members. File name: JD E100 - E180 Service Manual TM151119 21OCT19

I looked it over and it definitely has very limited info on decks.

So I changed his idler arm. The pivot hole was worn along with spring hole. Made no difference in engagement issue. Everything moves fine except when belt is in place. Brake moves off enough to disengage but only because most of brake is worn off. My sense is that if belt was slightly longer then lever would move farther but belt is oem and extremely loose when disengaged. I actually think the deck shifts forward a as it's lowered as brake moves slightly more off as deck lowered but I really don't like the' feel' when cutting below the halfway on lifter. It's complicated by fact there's play in right spindle and bearings didn't fix it.

Interesting coming back to this. My last post above says that I replaced his idler engagement arm. I forgot that . The oem deere belt put on in the fall apparently was coming off. When I checked it was off and worn thin as a previous had been. I had bought the suggested mtd one that's 1/2 shorter. Week later he says it came off 3 times. When I checked it was engine pulley and actually twisted backwards at engine pulley. I put it back on and told him I would remove deck and check it. I had to move it so I cut on the trip around the house. Next check I see belt on but looked like beginning to twist again. I took it off and looks like the joint point may be damaged. Something I noticed was idler arm seemed to bend slightly up so engagement pulley not level with all others. Not remembering that the lever was new I figured I should straighten it. I decided to put on a 102 inch belt just because I had one. Lots of slack when disengaged and just sits not moving. When engaged I can still easily pull against idler spring tension. Cut ok for short test. What I forgot to check was position of left brake ehrn it's engaged. If it looks like left brake is staying engaged I may pull if off temporarily as a test. He did tell me that he's been idling down before disengaging blades and pulls lever off slowly. I'm basically stumped as to why he's got ongoing belt issue.

Could it be a worn double stack allowing the belt to slip?

By that you mean engine pulley ? Would be odd for 6 year old mower. I just checked with the shorter belt (102 instead of 103 3/4. As I reported earlier the engagement arm will not move far enough to remove the brake pads off the pulleys and those are worn brake pads. Seems like what appears to be overly long oem belt is necessary to get sufficient movement of engagement arm to release the brake. Seems like we have to go back to longer belt or I do something to get brakes to release.
