Briggs OHV timing gear marks

Postby Dale_W » Tue May 23, 2023 2:35 pm

I looked in the manuals and downloads section in the pdf named 'single cylinder OHV'.
I'm not 100% sure that is the right manual for this engine.
engine is: Briggs 20A114-0363-E1 Code 050 506 YE

This is a pic of how I have the marks on the crankshaft gear and camshaft gear lined up.
Is this right?

Thank you ,

Yup. should be, if there are no other dots on either gear

One of the teeth on the camshaft gear has some red paint on it, but there is only the one mark.
Thanks again.

Here is a question that has been bugging me for a while.
When I look in the service manuals section for Briggs engines, I see for example 'Model 200000 Horizontal Series' or 'Model 150000 Horizontal Series'.

If the engine I am looking to get torque specs for is Model 20A114, Do I look under '200000 Horizontal Series'? This is a horizontal shaft engine.

thanks

Generally, yes but be sure your version of the manual is fully up to date (That is, it covers the 20A000 series base model otherwise, should be mention of it in the book somewhere) If your copy of the manual is too old it may cover 200000 L-Head series, which would be incorrect specs if using on a 20A000 OHV series (In other words, your manual should be the "Single Cylinder OHV" version) However, I suspect the older 200000 L-head model series would have been pushed to the "Antique Engines" manual by now (or at least only found in the L-Head service manual)
