I have a Tecumseh 8hp XL/C, model # HM80 155653T, Engine Family: YTPXS.3182BA, Displacement: 318cc, D.O.M.: 9337, mounted on my log splitter. I just replaced the fuel lines from the tank to the shut-off valve, and from the shut-off valve to the carb. I put some gas in the tank and wanted to see how full it was so I took a flashlight and looked into the tank to see how full it was because I had drained the tank. I discovered that sponge cube, (see pics), floating around in the tank. I got it out of the tank but not sure how it got in there. I got this splitter, used, years ago. Whenever I put gas in the tank that rubber piece was always loose, laying on the top of the tank filler neck. Does anyone know how these parts fit together? Which way does the "dome" in the rubber piece face, toward the cap or toward the tank? Am I missing a retaining device to hold everything together that would go over the center pin in the cap? Thanks for any help you can provide.
