Greetings All

Do any of you get asked if you could sharpen things other than lawn mower blades and saw chains? Over the years, I've been asked if I would sharpen garden shears, scythes, kitchen knives and scissors among other things. However what really took the cake for me was last week when one of my wife's friends who runs a small town bakery asked me if I would have a go at sharpening her 3 do-nut cutters .

I think that one of them was probably as old as the bakery itself which was opened in the mid 1950's The cutter was made of tin plated steel and the maker's address stamped into it had no zip code. The other 2 were evidently newer and were made of stainless steel with a zip code stamped into them. After a little time with a die grinder, bench grinder and a couple of different sharpening stones, I got the edges I wanted. My wife had a text from her friend the next day saying the morning do-nut cutting had never gone so smoothly .

Not as interesting as yours but along the same line.

In addition to keeping up my gas drinking machines, I do a little wood work.
A few years back, I made my wife a WOODEN CALENDAR. It had some recessed shelves that held the days of the week and the days of the month. It had a small drawer at the bottom to hold spare blocks. My wife liked it so much that she called the daughter to come over. Daughter looked at it and said to me "daddy, will you make one for me".....Sure says dad. Made calendar and delivered it. About a week or so, I get a call for daughter saying "my friend Sandy saw my calendar and wants one. Will you make one for her" I told her yes, but this is the end. No more calendar building.
When people find out you can make something (Or sharpen things) you get to be in demand. Sometimes I think it best to play dumb.

I know a mean vicious thought isn't it. That like taking that pain in the backside trimmer out back and shooting it to put out its and my misery.

We all probably get requests for things that do as a hobby or as favor for loved ones. When I was younger I use to sharp tin cans for my mother so she could chop cabbage up for kraut. Later I brought her a food processor to do the job but she couldn't operate it and still wanted me to do the can thing for her. No argument there.
