LOL! Yeah heard about that but we live no where near an interstate highway - closest one is at least an hour's drive.. maybe 40 minutes on a good day.. and that's in New York

Sounds like me but it is the larger towns that actually have supermarkets for food are a good 30 mins out and the closest interstate spur is about an 1 hour drive on a good day.

No wonder I try to buy extra parts and supplies when I do go to parts houses. I hate having to drive over round trip to JD just to get a $2 connector housing. That is one the reasons I building up a kit of the ones I commonly use here and ordering them through one my old electronics suppliers.

A friend asked me the other day why I order items that are available in town (at least 30 mins one way). I explain that most times my orders are large enough for free shipping and that it was a waste of my time to go to town for items that I probably won't find any way or the vendor got to order them and I got to make a second or third trip.

And when you are an one person shop the missed potential new customers which loves to come by when your gone. Or that can just be my timing...

Customers are learning me and have for most part stop calling @ 2 am in the blasted morning. So nice that the new phone system has a sleep mode. I have set it to send everything to answering machine between 18:30 and 07:00( that is 6:30 pm to 7 am).

Planning on rebuilding a storage building that someone had put the tin roof on backwards. Was a really nice building for storage until all the water damage and termites. This way I can make the shop look more professional than a piled up junk room and actually have an indoor work area with heat. The room is there just got move to a good chunk of the shop and non shop items moved to a different storage area.

Right now I got a JD LA115 and Briggs 5KW generator waiting for it to warm up somewhat. Plastic is just too brittle at the current temps. Was 8F this morning, still feels warmer than that 10F yesterday with the -4F wind chill. At least tomorrow should in the 40's with rain again by mid week.

a few years ago someone posted a picture of a car with a big pile of snow on it driving on the expressway in our nations capital. Turned out to be a city of Ottawa police car. I don't recall if they ever identified the driver as an officer or a civilian.

It is actually a law here in some states too where you can get ticketed for it - earlier this winter we actually had a local incident creating a perfect example of why - 2 cars passing by each other in opposite directions, one car had frozen snow they'd never cleaned off - peeled off the roof and went through the windshield of the other car - driver went to hospital in critical condition.

Sometimes I think there's no one home in this cases. They are either too lazy or just don't give a hoot. Got to think "Do I want it to happen to me".

That is like the customer a couple years ago here that while unloading a rider when the deck hung. He just started to grab the deck when I grab his hands as I seen the blades turning at a good speed. At first he was upset that I stopped him then I showed him why with an 1x4 I had which it took a good chuck out of. I had the operator to stop the engine and we finish unloading the mower by hand. Some other shop had bypassed the safety and deck was partially engaged when operator started the mower's engine.
