I have a clamp meter that does that live ac circuit test. A lot easier then old two wire neon light tester that I used years ago. I won't be too surprise what I might find. The house that was attached to the garage burned because of faulty wiring. When the insurance tore it down I found several places that tried set it a blaze in the past; they went out before going too far from the lack of oxygen. Improper crimp metal rings, loose grounds, and live interconnects without insulating twist nuts. I think the worse I have found so far is the duct tape wiring in my well pump and the live wires in the yard. I got those yard wires disconnected now but still need to dig them up.
It appears they are not too bright around here when it comes to safety. I even had a customer to start to reach under an operating mower deck.
He look a little bewildered when I grab his hand just before the moving blade would have cut off a few fingers.
