One thing I learned about dishwashers is to not ever wash the cast iron on the pot scrubber mode and then heated dry cycle. It took me all day to remove the rust and re-seasoned the skillets. Boy did it clean off all the carbon build-up. Wasn't intentional but still a lesson learn though I thought was was going some extra lumps from the cook.

I haven't tried one on machine parts as I knew better for I would be hand washing dishes for months.
