Cold Weather

Earlier in December I made plane reservations and hotel reservations and on December 18th my grandson and I went to Disney World. We had a great time, it was in the mid 80's and we hated to come back yesterday (the 23rd) to the cold and snow of Wisconsin. Last night it was 9 below zero (unofficial temperature, my thermometer) and Sunday we had almost a foot of snow fall here locally. The grandson and I were ready to jump back on the plane and go back down to where it was much nicer weather. The older I get, the less I like the cold snowy weather.

I'm a couple years younger then you. I still prefer the cold to the hot. I enjoy 40 to 60 degrees. We are planning to take grand daughter to disney in the spring, maybe April.

me, too. I spent 8 years in Miami, FL and this time of year, I *really* miss it. (especially my hands. - Arthritis sucks.) 3 years out of 3, I'd seriously considered closing up shop and moving the whole 9 yards to Miami, Homestead or Punta Gorda... somewhere in Deep South Florida. I'd probably do pretty good working on Air Boats in the Glades.. Open a new shop with air boat rental right on Alligator Alley...

If you prefer the cold to hot, now is the time to come to Florida and Disney World. Weather is great and not to hot. In the spring it will be summer weather here and you will need the air conditioning. Carl

You know, that isn't a bad idea. I have not been done anything with air boats so I don't know this first hand, but I have heard people love riding air boats down there. If that really is the case, then I would imagine if you were to start an air boat business in just the right place, you could do really well. I have no idea what the "start-up" cost would be, probably quite a bit of money, but once you get going and the business grows, I think you would exceptionally well, especially since you would be doing the bulk of your own repairs. Not trying to get you to move, just saying I think your idea was a pretty good one and worth serious consideration.

Something like around $10 Million.. minimum - *USED* air boats can sell for from $3K to $50K , new ones run from $36K and up...

Yup that's the general idea.. Air boat engines are little different that ultralight aircraft engines, as well. Kind of like snowmobile engines..

Given it serious consideration many times.. there's already several airboat rental places around there.. they CAN be fun... What I'd been thinking was besides that, I also have some designs for Hovercraft that would run off small 4-stroke engines, and some of the design elements would solve a few of the problems inherent to steering and stability of current designs I've seen.. so obviously, not something I'd discuss in detail... hovercraft would run quite well in same places that airboats do, except hovercraft can also run on land very effectively.. and I'd start building them custom to order for the clientele with the cash for it.

So no need to try and get me to move - If I *COULD* , I would.. in a new york minute.

I would never have guessed it would be 10 million to start the business. I would have guessed more in the range of one to one and a half million. Hovercraft would be another good idea, mainly since they will work on land or water. That being said, hovercraft could prove to be a really good idea too. Again, not trying to get you to do something you don't want to do, but depending on your age, starting a business like that COULD prove to be well worth doing.

There is a guy here running a boat on the river . He said he paid 20k for a used boat. Seats six and has a 454 engine on it. $20 a ride or 15 each if there are four or more. Our rivers are not pretty but the boat was cool and it was half the price of a two minute helicopter ride during the festival. I guess he plans on running every evening all summer next year. I wish him well but the people living along the banks are probably going to start complaining about the noise if he gets successful.
