Is bigger better?

THIS IS NOT A PYTHON! This is a 15 foot Western Diamondback rattlesnake - the largest ever caught on record. This snake was found Near the St. Augustine outlet, in a new KB homes subdivision just south of Mesa AZ. A little research revealed the following: One bite from a snake of this size would contain enough venom to kill over 40 full grown men. The head of this snake alone is larger than the hand of a normal sized man. A bite from those fangs would be comparable to being stabbed by two curved, 1/4 inch diameter screwdrivers. The knife being used to draw out the fangs for the bottom picture has a blade around 6 inch long. This snake is estimated to have weighed over 170 pounds. Notice the girth of this snake as compared to the cop's leg in the first picture. A snake of this size could easily swallow a 2 year-old child and dogs, pigs, etc. A snake this size has an approximately 5 1/2 foot accurate striking distance. (The distance for an average size rattlesnake is about 2 feet.) This snake has probably been alive since George Bush Sr. was President.
Now just ask yourself:
What has this snake been feeding on and where are its offspring?

Note--My wife's cousin lives in Mesa, AZ and she likes to play golf.

Sorry to disappoint you but that actually happened in Florida (St. Augustine area, a bit off I-95) in 2009 when I lived in Miami - and the snake's size has been exaggerated - it was actually 7 feet 3 inches which is still quite large (but by no means a record-breaker)

The supposed "size" of the snake is simply a forced perspective - that snake and the rod holding it is actually much closer to the camera than the car or the man in the background

It was not in Arizona (It is also attributed as being in Texas, among other places)

All I know is when I was around 7 or 8 years old my mother kill a female Diamondback here South of New Market, AL that was over 7 feet. We kids were picking wild native plums when she spotted the snake. While she followed she sent to house to get rifle. I thought I never going to get it down from over the doorway. I had to push the kitchen table under the doorway and stand on a lard can nearly falling. When I got back she asked why it took so long.

The rattler had coiled up and my mother was keeping in place by tossing rocks at it when it tried to leave. After she shot it, it immediately bit itself below area of the shot. Following an old wise tale she had me hang it up for rain. Well after the snake decayed I was poking around the remains, I counted over 100 baby rattler remains. Apparently snake had swallowed her young to protect them and with tying the mother up in the tree they couldn't get out.

After my mother went and picked every plum off the trees and told never to go back there without an escort.

Personally I have only killed handful of 3' Copperheads. Other non-poisonous snakes I catch and release them in an area that in safer for them to be.

IF I was the same circumstances I think would say "I'm okay" too. Some locals are trigger happy anyways. I had one to pull a gun on me just after he ask to see my DL as I reached for it in my back pocket. I hated to think what he would if open the glove box where I keep the Commanche III. It full of 158 grains jacketed hollow points.
