JIS Cross Point Bits

Postby acscolo » Sat Oct 21, 2017 6:40 am

Just returned from GIE where I attended a diaphragm carburetor training session given by Stihl. The training instructor recommended getting JIS bits or screw drivers to work on these carbs. He said, and I can confirm this, as we used JIS bits to tear down the carbs, that they fit the cross screws better than regular phillips drivers and will not cause cam out and stripping of these screws.

Anti-climb out bits. I have use similar bits before but they wear out just as quickly as regular ones

What I do on many cross point (Phillips) is to shock the screws before I attempt to remove them. You be surprised that you can even remove those damage ones a lot of time when this is done. It also works other screws and bolts too.

One other pay attention to the tips of your cross points. They should dubbed as the bottom the screw cross point are flatten.
