Yeah, mechanic positions are a little hard to come by up our way, plenty of work I think but between working here full time and raising 4 kids the spare time for a second job is a bit limited. Following a mentor, learning on my own and putting together a shop are home are much more doable than hunting down a part time gig at another shop, especially if they understand that I want the training to compete with them. bgsengine and I are far enough geographically that I don't think we would interfere with each other.
My wife does work and we have teenagers to take care of the housework, much to their chagrin
.Bookkeeping these days is little more than picking up a good program and becoming proficient at it and having an accountant to file taxes, but I would think that I'd be find with doing my own schedule-C for a year or two depending on business. It's been years since I used QuickBooks but as easy as it was to learn back then I can't see them making it too much more complicated. I do have an LLC in an unrelated area, set it up for a contracting opportunity that never panned out (damn start up companies), not sure if I could convert that from a technical to a service type LLC or not, will check that out though as it would offer some liability protection and a little professionalism (Bob's Tires v.s. Bob's Tires LLC).
Still working through the basics of the basics right now, making sure that my home owners insurance will allow me to do this in my garage, shop layout, demo and drywall (that is going to happen whether or not I have the shop in my garage).
bgs I'll try to call you at the shop tomorrow, I'll be working from home but will maybe try to at least slide in one day this week and shake hands.
