Cold Weather

Postby KE4AVB » Fri Jan 03, 2014 11:15 am

Hope anyone is staying warm during around of winter weather. It is not as cold for me as it is for some of you but it sure seems like it. It has nearly 20 years since I have seen temperatures in the single digits here. Going from 50F last weekend to 5-7F Tuesday morning is just a real shock. Brrrrr is is about the only word I come up with.

Yeah. we havent seen things this bad here either in a long time. This morning it was -2 on the shop thermometer, my dad's Cub Cadet diesel (Yanmar) gelled up the fuel so we got to deal with that as well, and Monday's supposed to be even worse with temperatures hitting as much as 17 below zero and when you figure in wind chill, well it's gonna be pretty nasty - one of the coldest winters I can remember.. Not fun when your boogers freeze up and just breathing hurts.

makes me wish I was back in Miami.

Hi KE4 & BG

Guess you're not used to real cold temperatures where you are. Up here in Alberta, we woke up to -32ºC (-26ºF) about a month ago. That's why we have block heaters in our vehicles and seasonally adjusted fuels (winter diesel) at the service stations. Water and waste pipes are all buried a minimum of 6 feet deep in the ground so they are below the frost line. Anyhow, stay warm and keep safe,

Nope, not comfortable with it that cold... I just got know where a hole in the ground is here in North Alabama every time gets around 70F and thunderstorms are in forecast because very high winds and tornadoes are highly likely.

I am thinking of having my next home built underground that way I can pretend to be a groundhog.

You know they are selling refurbished nuclear missile silos and converting them to underground homes..

maybe see if one of them comes up for sale somewhere.. :)

Reports of -15 on the radio, but my dash only got down to 1. Eight inches of globalll warmmmming yesterday I had to drive through but I got a new front wheel delivery truck. Today, I'm sorer than....well something sore....from fighting the wheel and my legs are throbbing for marching through snow and pushing people out. Six to twelve more inches of globalll warmmmming coming on Sunday. Time to exercise the generator I guess.

if its not to hot its to cold and then we have snow. i always like slipping in somewhere then sliding out. we just have to buck up and deal with it around here they dont do to much for the roads. i just drive around and pull people out for about 25 or so and if they dont like that tellem call a wrecker and leave. if they are older or with kids i have a kind spot and help out but most of them dont have any bussiness out in the first place. cant wait to get the ole sled out and play. lol

Supposed to get down to 25 below zero here in southeastern Wisconsin Sunday night, with wind chills around 55 below zero. I don't think it has been that cold around here for many years. It will be a good night to stay inside with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate.

With the temps getting so low today, you have a perfect excuse to watch The Battle Of The Bulge....that film with the Pro-American Fonda....But first...Memorize the first stanza of the Panzer song phonetically ( that means how it sounds Okie).

When that scene rolls around...you can sing along and will either impress the hell outta your wife or she will slip away and make a call to Homeland Security.
