Wiring help...

Wiring help...

I need some help wiring this motor to run in one direction. Need some help hooking up the starter cap and figuring out the wiring...like what is neutral???

Genie garage door opener motor?

Black - Hot
White - Neutral
Cap is wired across the orange and yellow wires.
Green is ground the world around.

White goes to either the orange or yellow wire depending on your choice of rotation.

Looks to me .. (And use extreme caution cause I probably dont know what the hell Im talking about here)

You would run the AC Ground (bare copper) to the motor body for ground? and then black to black and white to either yellow or orange (depending on rotation) and if it is capacitor start then probably the red hooks to a capacitor or the red might be for a 240v option?

Just a thought - almost looks like the diagram (and this is from memory of 10 years ago) on my craftsman grinder when I was wiring it up for 240v (It could run on either 120 or 240, I changed it to 240 when it started having problems starting on 120 line voltage. )

if you are gonna try that above I would suggest putting a 15 amp breaker in your line before plugging it in and plug in with extreme caution and hands off the motor, have a fire extinguisher handy.... or some way to quickly kill the power.. or all of the above

Your line cord should have a white (neutral), black (hot) and green (ground). All the other color coding is inherent to the opener controller.

I found a diagram of a PMX-IC opener. http://www.geniecompany.com/data/produc ... 535556.pdf (bottom of page 29).

240V operation does not seem to be an option. I'm not exactly sure what the red wire is for, unless it's a feedback/signal wire back to the controller. The red wire is common with the black wire but power being on it relies on the fact that the internal thermal protection fuse/breaker is closed.

I would hook up hot (black) to the black wire, neutral (white) to either the the orange or yellow wire depending on what rotation you want and the green to ground/motor frame.

The capacitor as you can see is wired directly across the yellow and orange wires. The red wire does not come into play with the cap as bgs suggested. I'm sure that motor will run just fine without any connection to the red wire, but beware it will be hot, just like the black wire unless the internal thermal fuse has opened.

I could splain it to you Bobo, but if I did Billy would have to come over and cut you free of the reverse drive belt.

Stick the capacitor across orange & yellow.

Twist black firmly onto one side of the cord, not the green wire.
Use some tape or a crimp thing or a wirenut on the black so it stays stick together. Duct tape will work.

Hook the other wire from the cord that ain't gren onto either yellow or orange, NOT both.
Plug the plug in and the motor should spin one way. I
d get into the CW-CCW thing, but I know you only use a digital clock now.

This is REAL IMPORTANT!

Unplug the motor from the wall and let it stop.

Swap the wire from the cord to the other wire, yellow or orange, rwist it up good, and leave the damn green wire alone.
Stick the plug back in the wall.
Motor should be goin the other way.

LEAVE THE DAMN GREEN WIRE ALONE.
Sit back for balance of day getting congratulated as you do the billing.
