I hope you boys from Canada are not in the burning area. Nearly half million acres burned so far. Its sad to see such waste and such danger.

Being some 500 miles away, we only have the smoke to deal with.
I am fortunate that I can stay inside but feel sorry for those that have to work outside in these conditions.

I didn't think about the smoke. I guess there are lot of side effects that I hadn't thought about. Those folks in Fort McMurray had it rough.

We had very visible smoke in South Central Husker Nation yesterday afternoon and into today.

The Blue Angels were to perform at the air show in Lincoln yesterday, but it was cancelled due to lack of visibility caused by the smoke.

Those folks are going to have a lot to contend with, especially those with no homes to go back to.
I heard one official estimate 90 billion dollars will be needed to replace homes and business.
Even if the fires were put out tomorrow they say it will take about four weeks before oil production starts.
I think that disaster is going to fuel a rise in gasoline prices.

Hi All

Here I'm about 540 miles south of Fort McMurray so we're not even getting any smoke. It was a hot one here yesterday +28ºC (+83ºF) and winds from the southwest. However, the wind switched to the northeast today and it started raining here about 7:30 this evening. As Tuffnell mentioned, this is a very expensive disaster. I just wonder how many insurance companies are going to file for bankruptcy so they can get out of paying up. All the best,
