need info

Postby okie » Mon Dec 12, 2016 4:16 pm

I need the torque sequence and the torque pounds for bottom pan. I am having to redo this thing and I am beginning to doubt my look-up ability.

I put a new cam shaft in this about a year ago and it has leaked since about the 1st of the year. I put this off til cooler weather and it is here.
I also would like your ideas on gasket (Tube type) from the auto part store. I will not put this new gasket on dry...like before.
I appreciate your help.

Permatex blue rtv gasket maker is good. Thinking its 180 in lbs on torque found the torque sequence pic but can't post. Maybe someone else can post the pic on the sequ.

Thanks guys for the info.
I got the permatex blue this morning and on the directions it talks like you don't use the original gasket. I had thought about sandwitching the gasket in between the permatex.
Now I am thinking about using one coat of permatex and that all. I do not want to go thru this again.

Thoughts???????

Okie,

Slight problem with RTV as doesn't allow for the required spacing between the crankcase halves; otherwords, moving parts will most likely bind. Gasket acts as a shim. Now a thin layer on the gasket might work as it will squeeze out where not needed and fill in nicks. You could use something like Honda or Yama Bond on the gasket.

with gasket and rtv endplay might stay within spec. Briggs manuals say always use the .015 and add thinner ones to get more endplay. To reduce endplay the .015 is still used but a thrust washer put inside to take up the play.

Okie,

If your not froze yet you can download the service manual for single OHV engine from the downloads forum section >Briggs Service Infomation directory. IT on my Google drive so you can either read it online or download it.

BTW the weather here is like a yo-yo. Yesterday it was nearly 60 today the mid 30's, knees a knocking, then back to 70 Saturday and the dropping to 30 by midday Sunday with rain. Shorts one day, a parka the next. I should had flown South with the rest of the birds.
