Ferris/Simplicity TW2061 Hydraulic fluid capacity

Postby Mr Mower Man » Thu Jan 12, 2017 5:17 pm

I'm having difficulty finding any manual on this 3-wheel Ferris mower. The Transaxle is kinda whiny sometimes, and I think it's been ages since the hydro fluid and filter were replaced. Can anyone help me with the transaxle and tank capacity so I can make sure I have as much of the right kind of fluid that I need? Thanks.

Tw2061 Morgan ipl shows it having an Eaton 851 so its transaxle case capacity is 2200 mL [74 oz]. The would on e of the following: Premium hydraulic oil having a viscosity equivalent to SAE 20w-20, SAE 30 or SAE 40.

Of course you would fill the reserve tank until reaches about 1-2" below fill tube neck I would think.

OK, good. Thanks. Do you think it would be OK to use some kind of universal hydraulic fluid like Lucas's (Stens part # 051-531), or Stens hydraulic fluid (part # 770-652)?

As long you don't mix blends you should be fine as these are comparable to the JDM 20C (Summer- 46-68 ISO) and 20D (Winter). The JDM 20A (all-weather hydraulic fluid) was replaced by the JDM 20C as far as I know. The chart should clear up things but lead to confusion too. There are different additives between hydro oils and motor oils which is why you don't mix them as some may be incompatible.
