Honda Valve Guide ?

Postby KE4AVB » Fri Feb 17, 2017 4:39 pm

I know I probably shouldn't be asking but does anyone have any info the OS valve guide for the Honda GX390 QAA2 engine? Those free shop manuals are pretty useless when comes to things like this. Haven't ever torn down one these engines so don't know if they have replaceable valve guides, if OS guides requires any additional tools and if OS means I oversize valve stems. Customer probably won't fix the engine but just asking in case he does. Exhaust has enough side movement that decomp don't work as well it should all the time especially during freezing temps.

RoyM the valve guides are available for the GX390 just needing a little info so know what tools I need. I may already have what I need as I know that reamer would need a 1/64 smaller than the guide OD but I know what they referring by indicating oversize. Just to tear down an engine and then order the tools.

Tnx. Ouch that Honda 6.6 reamer is over $100. I should be able to use the .260 reamer here. It is only .0002 over.

I have this manual which is supposed to be service and shows those in the index but document contents end at maintenance section . service stuff is missing.

Just found ut1 and ut2 at honda site, downloaded and they end at section 3 maintenance as well

That what they call a shop manual. I have access to those thru the EU site as said not much help for serious work. That reamer is a finish reamer according the UT1 manual version.

Anyway just got off the phone with customer giving him an estimate for reworking the head and replacing the flywheel side seal. He just going to pick it up and run it until quits. Nothing I can do about it as that is his decision.
