Porter Cable Generator no 240V output

Porter Cable Generator Model BS1550-W-3 produces 120V at both outlets but has no 240V output. Circuit breaker and connection all okay. Any help is appreciated.

Depends how it is wired. If each outlet is wired to a separate winding then you know both are good, it is likely a connection issue. If they both are hooked to the same winding the other one could be dead. Do you get anything at the 240 outlet? Have a good sniff around the outlets, if you smell anything burnt it's not good.

There is 0 volts output on any leg of the 240V twist connector but both 120V duplex receptacles have 120V output.
From the schematic it appears I should have 120V on individual legs of the 240V twist connector but I do not.
I will recheck connections.

Across X and Y would be approximately 240Vac. Across X to W, Y to W, X to G, and Y to G all would be approximately 120Vac; unless, earth ground is unbonded then X to G and Y to G would register from 0 Vac - 120Vac as it is possible to have feedback from any of the electrical equipment plugged in. Basically when unbonded the neutral is a floating and can have a voltage potential to earth ground.

technically he is correct that only x an y will show voltage. depends on where x and y are tested to. as said 240 to each other and 120 for either tested to neutral.

Check for 240 v terminal to terminal on the breakers. (1 to 4 of the stator windings)
Note that you are NOT checking for voltage to chassis or ground on this first test but terminal 1 to term 4 for 240 volts.

If you read 0 volts terminal 1 to 4 but 120 volts from 1 and/or 4 to ground someone has rewired the unit for 120v only. (both stator windings wired in phase which will produce two times the rated 120 capacity wattage at a single recept)

Have you ever seen 240 volts from this gen or something you have taken in for repairs??

Like could Bubba have been inside re-wiring the genny?

Also note that the wiring diagram posted is not indicated as being listed for a BS1500-W-3 gen.
(therefore we are assuming that the diagram posted is ok for your genny model 3 also)
