kohler aegis with gas in oil

Postby plotthound » Thu Apr 20, 2017 7:11 am

so a good friend of mine has two fairly new argo aatv's with the 26 hp carbed aegis horizontal engines.both machines have under 3oo hours on them.since day one both machines have run very rich and will not idle because they load up and stall.the argo dealer has tried everything under the sun except check the carbs for proper float and needle operation to fix this problem.after a few hours of use there is a considerable amount of gas in the oil to the point where its way high on the dipstick.im thinking that its a needle not seating properly problem and I might just tear into one to see if its the problem.was just wondering if anyone else here has run into the same trouble with these engines.

cheers

Obviously a carb problem. Sounds like it indeed has a leaking needle/seat. Get you a service manual here:https://power.kohler.com/na-en/engines/manuals
Pretty sure the float is not adjustable.

Might want to check the fuel pump, could be too much pressure, or perhaps gravity fed carbs being pump fed by an electric pump. Some carbs,( notably Briggs) have different sized inlet needle seat orifices, gravity is bigger, vs pump uses a smaller hole.
Don't know if that's the case here at all...
A mind is a terrible thing to waste...

thanks fultilt, fuel pump is not electric.its runs off of valve action.after looking at some pictures of the carb,it does not seem to have a removable seat but the float looks to be adjustable.
