Good ignition switch terminals?

Postby hanz63 » Wed May 24, 2017 10:39 pm

OEP 33-351 Is there anything better / slightly heavier? It seems when the wire is a bit larger, I have issues. I may have issues anyway, but that's another story. Granted my go to crimp tool for these are a needle nose pliers. Maybe I can improve on that?

I have not had any problem any of the ignition terminals I brought so far. Now you do know the 33-351 are for 16-14 ga only? There are different ones for 12 ga and for 20-18 ga.

For the open barrel Packard (GM, Delphi) F56 you need a proper crimper like the Accel 170036 that does open barrel crimps. Now they will set you back $70-$95 but are well worth if you do a lot of any wire crimping. Will do both insulated and non-insulated plus 7-9mm spark plug wire terminals too. Just won't do battery cable lugs. The crimps are factory style. Just a small learning curve as terminals can be only crimp one way or they be crimped improperly.

Might seem expensive to some but once you get use to them you will wonder how you manage without them or at least I do as the those el cheapo crimpers that come with solder-less terminal kits are worthless and hard to get good crimps.

I got mine back in Nov '16 through my Smile Amazon account with free 2 day shipping.

Drop the Prefix "GM-" when googling, just how I have them listed in my inventory.

Am I correct in finding these terminals are a buck each?

Don't know what they are across the border. But here is what I paid each for some back at the first of the year.

2965867 .22 each
2971962 .36 each
2965481 .28 each
2965510 .40 each

Didn't have immediate need for the 12 ga ones but are on the list when I order some housings. The 12 Ga females are around .48 each.

Hmmm, they look more gnarly. The tool has too many lose able parts for me. Looks nice though.

This type has worked good for me for a bunch of years, and held up well. :http://www.ebay.com/itm/Molex-Style-CRIMPING-TOOL-Wiring-Harness-Terminals-Crimper-Open-Barrel-14-24-AWG-/282135922442?hash=item41b09c870a:g:8oUAAOSwyQtVkEFC

It was just a recommendation.

Yes they have three head sets but I do first put things when I through with them I immediately put their storage box. I have have too many tools for them just to be laying around for customers to pickup.

Second I do use all three heads on a weekly basis here. Ignition terminals, uninsulated terminals and insulated terminals so they fit my needs.I also do up to 10 gauge terminals before I switch over and have a hammer crimper for the 8 and 6 gauge cable lugs. I have been looking at a crimper that uses my impact to do the battery and larger cables that does a three point crimp.
