Probably at least for your series.
And on my engines there are more letters after the 7 digits.
exactly 4 characters long , may include as many as 2 asterisks on the end (Example A7** or A4A* or T32Z ) will be your type number which you will also need for accurate parts lookup.
Obviously I have them wrong since I thought digits 6 and 7 on one of them was JJ. Maybe it's 00.
I hate those engraved dot matrix numbers .. just one dot slightly out of place can totally screw up a parts lookup unless you have a perfectly clear view of the numbers (which is almost never unless you have a bare torn down block cleaned up and under strong shop lights)

edit: I just found this on engines.honda.com
Manuals are free to download.

Need help finding your model number?
Back to models list
Serial Number Application/Fuel Type Language(s)
GJAE-1000001 through 9999999 Download
GJAEA-1000001 through 9999999 Download
GJAPA-1533530 through 9999999 Download
GJARA-1000001 through 1533529 Download
GJARA-1533530 through 9999999

Would that be the complete set of GCV160 models? although says US models.

Those free downloads are owners manuals only. Full blown service manuals are not free but you can get a shop manual which is a limited service manual for if the you go thru the following site. Can be a little difficult to navigate the shop manuals.

As for part lists you either need the serial number or type number. Can be search both ways. There is definitely more than 6 versions. When the type number search you will find that you change to a different model number as in the case of the GCV160 as are 8 different base models in the series. You this where you use the type help to narrow it down.

In this example given 1GJAEA 3306296 STL1 First part is the model code, second part is the serial, and the third part is the type code.

Neighbour's is a Lawnboy. Remember your thread on rope starter. His has problems and it's the pricier one. Still hoping to fix it.

I did find a longer list of models. That list I copied before said you could download but there was no link to do it.

Just fetch a 28400-Z8B-901ZB. I got mine from http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/honda/H-28400-Z8B-901ZB.html, $15.16 FOB 68845-4802. Yes it's red and a direct mount, but it's a long rope and it works great. I just swapped the ergonomic handle from the old starter.

I have one of those from a parts mower that had a major meltdown in the carb area.

38racing wrote:So today the neighbour's started fine and cut fine in my wheel position, not a hint of hesitation. Interesting though is that I broke the mounting on the shutoff valve so it hangs out loose. His is a right angle unit so had a 90 bend from it to the carb. Now hanging loose it has less bend. Could have been a fuel restriction? And to further muddy the waters I was putting a new plug in the dumper one so tested in it. 95 psi on 5 pulls. (remember neighbour's was 70) . So I re-tested his and got 105 PSI. Warmer day? Babysitting all day tomorrow. He'll get it back Saturday.

so I took his back. I cut my way to his house through the cemetery next door and along the road. I haven't heard back that he's had any problem. Here's the kicker. The dumper one that also ran fine after the carb swap (it has the new one that ran good, then bad, on his) has been waiting for it's own fuel cap. Put it on tonight and guess what. Trouble getting it started and now it won't run unless I apply some choke. Fuel line was all new and a new inline filter since I cut off intake filter. Ugh.
